The PCC are delighted to announce that they have appointed James Thomas MA, FRCO, FITCL, GTCL (Hons), LRAM, PGCE as the Director of Music at Holy Trinity church, Weymouth.
Over his career James has built up a wealth of experience as an organist, teacher, and choral and orchestral director. He has extensive recital experience both in the UK and overseas. He has also given recitals in most of our British cathedrals and major parish churches. He has held major appointments in Grantham, Shrewsbury and St Mary Bourne Street, London.
Post graduate studies included academic research and performance featuring the German Romantics Ritter and Topfer.
In recent years James has held positions as an organist and director of music at St Paul’s, Brighton, organist to the university of Sussex and director of the Sussex University Chamber choir, the Ravenscroft Singers and Canticle Chamber Choir. He went on to positions as director of music at Harrow International school and cathedral organist in Hong Kong, and as organist and director of music at Christchurch Cathedral, Nelson, New Zealand.
James also teaches the organ privately and has tutored for the Royal college of organists, Royal School of Church Musicians and led courses for these musical institutions. In addition James teaches conducting and other aspects of choral direction to young organists and prospective Oxford and Cambridge scholars.
James is married to Lizzie who is also a professional musician, voice recitalist and teacher as well as a harpist.
Both James and Lizzie would describe themselves as a team. We welcome them both to our church family and look forward to them joining us.
