We are delighted that the VERY REVEREND ALAN WOODS will be our preacher at St Nicholas church for the final service of Thanksgiving on Sunday 4th March.

Father Alan has had a long and varied ministry in the Anglican church and latterly during the vacancy had assisted at both of our churches. From 2003 to 2008 he was the Dean of Gibraltar and combined this post with that of Vicar General to the Bishop in Europe and Archdeacon of Gibraltar.

We look forward to welcoming him back to St Nicholas for this service of celebration, thanksgiving and new beginnings.

    Change is Always a Challenge

Most of our readers will know by now that, by the time you read this, St Nicholas church will have permanently closed and the site will up for sale. Change is always a challenge for us all. But it can be exciting too. The Church in every generation and in every era of its life has always had challenges to face because of the changing circumstances in which she finds herself. Our present age is no different.

Pastoral Care for St Nicholas Congregation

Father Andrew has successfully secured an alternative venue for our Wednesday Eucharist and a once a month Sunday Service (for those members of St Nicholas who are unable to get to Holy Trinity). We are grateful to Gracewell Community of Weymouth who have offered to accommodate us in one of their small community rooms. As from Wednesday 7th March we will continue to share together in the Eucharist at 10am at Gracewell, which is next to Holy Trinity School, Cross Road. During Lent this will be followed by our Lent Course. The first Sunday Service will be on Easter Day at 8.30 am and thereafter on the third Sunday of each month at 8.30 am.

Last November the Trustees and PCC unanimously voted to start the process to close St Nicholas church and to sell the site.
It had become impossible to maintain two buildings where both need so much work on them. It was decided to close St Nicholas and to concentrate the church’s future mission at Holy Trinity in Weymouth where the long term vision will be to offer new facilities and mission opportunities as we discover Gods kingdom in a changing world.

To this end the sale of the site and land at St Nicholas will help us generate funds in which a team of people will work to hopefully gain match funding to repair, and reorder in exciting and imaginative ways Holy Trinity church, Weymouth making what we hope will be a hub for all manner of outreach opportunities as we engage actively in our parish and the community of Weymouth.

However we want to celebrate all that St Nicholas church has been over 54 years as a church and a community hall.  To this end everyone is warmly invited to the final Eucharist on Sunday 4th March. There will be no 10am service at Holy Trinity on this Sunday.

At the end of the service there will be light refreshments and a display of photographs depicting the history of how St Nicholas church evolved and changed over the years.
