Dorset Historic Churches Trust Great Cycle Ride
2010 is the 20th year of the ‘Great Cycle Ride’ organised by the Dorset Historic Churches Trust. Since 1991 the event has raised over £622,130 to assist churches and chapels of all denominations in Dorset with grants and loans for essential fabric repairs and restoration. Last year the Cycle Ride raised over £62,176, half of which was, as usual, returned immediately to participating parishes. All ages can take part, by bicycle, on foot, in a wheelchair or on horseback. The majority of churches will be open between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm to welcome cyclists and validate their sponsorship form. Many of the churches will offer refreshments and local information.
Sponsorship is based on the number of churches the participants plan to visit, the distance, area and timing of individual rides is entirely up to those taking part and can be as long or as short as desired. It is ideal for families, groups and individuals who can take part by bicycle, on foot, in a wheelchair or on horseback.
Those unable to take part in the ride can help out by staffing their local church, so there really is apart for the local community to play. Help wanted at Holy Trinity to welcome cyclists to our church on Saturday 11th September, please see the pew sheet for further details on how you can help or talk to one of the Clergy.
