Sociable Strollers

Mothering Sunday provided us with a gloriously sunny afternoon on which to enjoy a stroll around the base of the hill on which sits St Catherine’s Chapel, overlooking Abbotsbury and the Chesil Bank.

An odd choice of venue, perhaps, as St Catherine is the patron saint of spinsters, but nevertheless the walk was greatly enjoyed by all who took part.  We were pleased to welcome two new walkers to our number and hope they were not put off by the rather strenuous stretch of coastline which required us to trudge for quite a way along shingle – very toning for the thighs!!  Sad to say, having toned our thighs to perfection many of us were then tempted by the Fruit and Nut Muffin cake in the Colonial Tea Rooms in Abbotsbury Gardens and undid all our good work!!

The next walk will be from the Seven Stars, near Wool, on Easter Monday, April 13th.  Meet at 10.15am at the pub, for a walk of about 4 ½ miles – slightly longer than usual, but flat and easy walking!!  This is a change of venue from the published programme, as the original venue and walk turned out to be unsuitable for us when we tried it out.  Please sign the list in the Organ Transept so we can let the pub know our numbers on what is usually a busy day for them.

The May walk will be on Saturday 30th, starting at the Thomas Hardy pub in Dorchester (formerly the Trumpet Major) and will be led by a new, mystery leader!!  Come along to that and all will be revealed!  Details in the pew sheet nearer the time.

Vicar’s letter for February 2012

“‘There’s no place like home’ goes the old song and it is surely true that for virtually everyone home is important. If we’ve been away for a long time we are really eager to get back. One of the worst punishments that was handed down in the past was exile.”
