Holy Trinity School Walking Bus world record attempt
100 pupils from our primary school will be helping to break the world record for the largest Walking Bus at 10.00 am on Wednesday 11 June. They will be walking a circular route along Wyke Road, Rodwell Road and Buxton Road simultaneously with other schools nationally. The walking bus will be highly visible and send out a strong message to people who unnecessarily drive to school.
This attempt is being organised by Brake, the national road safety charity, and over 250 schools and 200,000 children will be taking part. 82,315 children took part in 2007 and Brake is confident that this will easily be broken this year and a new number will eventually appear in the Guiness Book of Records.
Holy Trinity School has been leading the way locally by actively promoting walking to school, operating walking buses since July 2007. Parent Governors Steven Booth and Helen Toft have organised participation locally for this growing and widespread national event. We are supported by Rob Camp, Senior Road Safety Officer for Dorset, the Mayor of Weymouth & Portland and Police Community Support Officers who will walk with this special walking bus as well as act as independent adjudicators.
